Our Story Continues

After graduating From Downsville High School in 1963, I went to work as everybody did back then , and worked for the next 20 years at a paper bag factory.  I had only worked there for 2 years before my good “Uncle Sam” sent me an invitation to spend a couple of years with him.  I got out of the Army in the summer of 1967, and Geraline and I married that fall.  We built our home in the same community we grew up in.   Our first daughter, Stephanie, was born in November 1970.   Cynthia was born in December of 1974.  They both spent their younger years there in the country.   We just barely made the move to West Monroe in time for Stephanie to graduate from West Monroe High School, in 1988.

In 1972 I entered an apprenticeship program at my job, and after 5 years, became an Industrial Electrician.    Another five years, and that plant closed down in 1982.  I have worked at various other locations around Louisiana since that time, but always as a troubleshooter and designer of Industrial Machinery, as an Electrician.  Now that retirement is just around the corner, my wife and I have decided to do more of the things we enjoy. 

I have an old(1975 model) 14 foot aluminum boat which I use to get around in these creeks and bayous and sometimes  in the Ouachita River.  It is especially good for getting back into the places a bigger boat would not be able to go.  Some of the areas in Chenerie Lake are also hard to go into with a bigger boat. So this one suits my needs better than a big Bass Rig.  At least that's what I tell myself when I start looking at the prices of those big shining Tracker boats at the Bass Pro Shop.

  The Ouachita River into which my beautiful Bayou D'Arbonne flows, runs generally south through this state, collecting the tributary waters of Bayou Bartholomew, Bayou de Loutre, Bayou D'Arbonne, the Boeuf River, the Little River, and the Tensas River. Beyond the Tensas, the Ouachita is called the Black River for several miles until it joins the Red River, which flows into both the Atchafalaya and the Mississippi River, by the Old River Control Structure. The Ouachita River has six locks and dams along its length.  It began its  journey way up in north west Arkansas near Mena. 

A few years back my Daughters were taking their teenage daughters up to the old home place in Point for a visit with my Mother.  Since Mother was not home, they decided to visit with some cousins, but they were also out of pocket.  They went into the wooded area and were just wandering around in the woods, and got turned around and were just about to decide they were lost.  Then as they were getting close to a small creek they heard the pitiful cries of some small creatures.  They could smell death, but noticed movement, and getting a little brave, decided to see what was there.  They found two dead puppies and two barely alive puppies, and brought the live ones out.  Guess what they called them,  "Old Dan", and "Little Ann".   Little Ann is almost totally deaf.  Old Dan is now happily herding goats in Texas.

We will be always adding things that are positive and helpful, and hope you will come back often.  Imagine just for a while what it would be like if you could spend more time doing the things you enjoy.  Visualize what you would rather be doing right now.  Would you be spending more time with your family and friends?  Maybe you would like to get away by yourself for a little while.  There are several things you would probably be doing right now, if time and money would allow.  We are going to work together with you, to help create a lifestyle of more money and time to enjoy it.  Working together we can build an environment where we can break out of our regular Just Over Broke.

A Technology comes along that lets two people do the work of ten.  Eight people are unemployed but we still have the wealth produced by the full ten. Then those eight people, who are now unemployed, go out and get new jobs producing new things, and that’s how the economy grows. Certainly not by government programs and intervention, which our left leaning liberal friends want us to think.
